Typically a date is for singles to do a little mingling.
[ Is this guy for real? Apparently single dads aren't as eager to get back out there as single moms are. Negan raises an eyebrow. The obliviousness is a little adorable. ]
[ Once Rick leaves his office, Negan has to sit there a moment and let the realization settle. He just asked a parent out on a date, which breaks pretty much every goddamn rule of his. A fuck is one thing, but a date? What the fuck is he getting himself into?
Either way, one won't kill him, and maybe Rick will take that stick out of his ass for an evening.
Days pass in much the same manner, and he can't help but notice that the Grimes kid has started attending gym, if not horribly grudgingly. Whatever, it gets the principal off his back. He texts Rick just to make sure the guy has his phone number, but not much else until Thursday.
Of course he doesn't simply text Rick with an address where their date is- he shows up to the sheriff's office in his riding leathers, motorcycle parked out front. He doesn't need to walk in, he'll just wait outside after sending Rick a text. ]
[ Temporary insanity - the only explanation he could give to accepting a date not only with one of Carl's teachers but with someone like Negan in the first place. Someone much too smirky and like he could charm his way with anyone. Rick never enjoyed being charmed whatsoever because there were always too many strings attached to it. This didn't push him to take back his acceptance, though, for other reasons unknown.
The days passed in a blur, Rick making sure to keep a closer eye on Carl to ensure he attended classes and completed his homework. They all needed to do better. Become a family unit again.
For now, he had so many other things to focus on. Almost finished up for the day, his phone buzzed as he set aside some paperwork. The name flashing had him shaking his head. Date day. ]

Are you tryin' to ask me out on a date?

Daddy Grimes catches on quick. I'll pick you up at the station.

What? Why?
Even understanding the intention did very little for grasping it. ]
What kinda date you think 'bout?

I meant what kinda date you were thinkin' about is all. [ He fell silent a moment. ] Okay. I'm guessin' you got my number on file?
[ He really should have declined and yet. ]

I'll send you a text with the details and pick you up Thursday at about seven.

Okay, I'll talk to you then.
[ Standing up, he held out a hand politely. ]
